About Us
The Doctoral School on Safety and Security Sciences (BDI) belongs to the field of engineering sciences, within which it is classified under the discipline of military engineering sciences, its research area is safety and security sciences. The BDI was established in 2012 as part of the doctoral education system of Óbuda University, and in the same year it received official accreditation from the Hungarian Accreditation Committee. The aim of founding the school was to create a modern scientific workshop capable of addressing the increasingly complex global challenges of safety and security, while promoting the integration of interdisciplinary fields within engineering sciences.
The research, development, and innovation (K+F+I) activities carried out within the BDI, driven by real-world needs, primarily aim to ensure the reliable operation of safety-critical systems that have become significant social, economic, and political factors today. In addition, the school is committed to educating professionals who are capable of conducting creative, system-level research on the complex problems of safety and security. At the core of the school’s philosophy is the development of a new type of application-oriented knowledge through a synergistic and project-oriented approach.
Over the course of its development, the BDI has become an active scientific community with strong international connections, where education, research, and industrial collaborations are closely integrated. The operation of the doctoral school involves both national and international partners, as well as experts from various research institutions, further strengthening its interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach.
Research topics include:
- modeling and numerical simulation
- protection of critical infrastructures
- security and reliability of information systems
- safety-related issues of human–machine and human–environment systems
- operation and operational safety
Today, the Doctoral School on Safety and Security Sciences is a dynamically developing, internationally competitive center for research and education, playing a key role in the advancement of safety and security sciences both in Hungary and internationally.
