Operation of the Institute

The Africa Research Institute is an academic research institute at Óbuda University that provides a specialized training program not only to the students and doctoral students of the University, but also to other higher education institutions.

The researches target the whole of the African continent (Maghreb region and Egypt; Sahara, Sub-Saharan Africa – Western, Central, Eastern and Southern Africa).

The Africa Research Institute was established in 2019 at Óbuda University by the management of the doctoral school. It is being expanded and internationalized.

The Doctoral School of Safety and Security Sciences at Óbuda University was established seven years earlier, in 2012, with the right to the following activities – and the research areas of the Africa Research Institute focus primarily (but not exclusively) on these areas:

  • security technology;
  • security of critical systems;
  • energy security;
  • industrial safety;
  • built environmental safety;
  • technology security;
  • cyber security;
  • information security;
  • economic security;
  • financial security;
  • traffic safety;
  • food safety;
  • water safety;
  • personal safety;
  • security policy;
  • critical infrastructure.

Since 2021, the Humanitarian Response Manager course has been operating with the active participation of the Research Institute and the involvement of its researchers.

The aim of the Research Institute is to get involved in Hungarian African research, to establish active relations and collaborations at the Hungarian and international level by implementing research, student exchange programs and joint tenders. The institution’s main goal is to build intensive relationships with African research institutes and universities.

The Africa Research Institute considers it an important task to arouse young people’s interest by presenting scientific activities and research areas in the African region, and its staff also holds African studies courses in basic and secondary level involving NGOs and educational institutions throughout the country.
