Dr. Dániel TOKODY

Dear Colleagues,
Let me briefly introduce myself. I am Dr. Dániel Tokody. My research topic is the development of intelligent railway IT and safety systems. I am currently working at the Chinese-Hungarian Railway Nonprofit Co., Ltd. as a project expert. I have also been a supervisor at the Doctoral School of Security Sciences at Óbuda University and a lecturer in the subject that establishes security science, and I have been helping our Doctoral School, which is the starting point of my scientific career, for several years.
But how did I get here?
I started my doctoral training in 2014 at the Doctoral School of Security Sciences at Óbuda University.
Since 2014.10.13., I have been a member of the Department of Technical Sciences of the National Association of Doctoral Students, since 2014.10.13., vice president since 2014.09.01-2017.02.28. I was its president between 2015 and 2016.
In addition, I served as the president of the Doctoral Student Self-Government of Óbuda University from 2015.12.02 to 2016. I played a significant role in organizing the 2016 Spring Wind Conference – the largest national conference for doctoral students covering all fields of science.
From 2017.01.01., I took on the role of a member of the board of the National Association of Doctoral Students responsible for R&D&I activities and cooperation with the industrial sector. Then, in the fall of 2017, I briefly assisted the work of the national organization as acting president.
In 2020, I earned a degree from the Doctoral School of Security Sciences of Óbuda University. After that, I applied and became a member of the DOSZ Alumni Department, of which I have been an active member ever since. My doctoral dissertation was also published in book form in the volume “Studia Doctorandorum Alumnae II. (2021). – A selection of doctoral works of the DOSz Alumni Department members” published by DOSZ.
I can thank the success of my national and university activities to the creative community that the BDI scientific community means to me. Because in my opinion, everything is easier in a community!
On September 4, 2015, we organized the first BDI Doctoral Meeting with my fellow doctoral students at the time. We set the primary goal of the event as being that BDI students and lecturers could meet once a month – on the third Friday of the month – at a more informal event and exchange ideas about their research in the field of security science.
Looking back on the past ten years – we always take a group photo together, so we have the opportunity to remember – we have created a series of events through joint work that has forged a unique community of people studying, researching, and working in our field of science at a national level.
I trust that many, many more decades lie ahead of us. And this event will continue to be attended not only by current students and lecturers, but also by Alumni members from time to time. I think this has become a practice anyway. Because every academic year we take the time to invite those who have already earned degrees to our events, in order to help our active students with their experiences. Our events are always open to our Alumni members, which we also provide news about from time to time to everyone in our closed Facebook group.
In the first round – on our website below – the most active Alumni members of our Doctoral School will remember in their own words their doctoral training, their scientific and professional activities since obtaining their degrees, and their ongoing relationship with Óbuda University and the Doctoral School of Security Sciences.
In conclusion, I hereby invite all former graduates to take a role in the ongoing life of BDI, as a topic announcer, topic supervisor, or instructor. Or simply share your experiences about the time since obtaining your degrees here on our website or even in person. You can also do this informally during our June or Christmas events.
Let us always be a Community for Security Sciences!

Dr. Yue WU

Hello everyone!
My name is Yue (Joy) , and I am a recent graduate of the BDI Doctoral School. I successfully defended my PhD dissertation in 2025, and it is a truly special feeling to return now as an invited speaker—especially knowing that just a short time ago I was sitting here as a doctoral student myself. It really feels like a meaningful “role change,” and I’m very grateful for it.
During my PhD, I had the honor of serving as the Chinese Ambassador of DOSZ, which allowed me to support international students and strengthen the connections between the Chinese and Hungarian academic communities. I also worked as president of Chinese Students and Scholars Association at Obuda University since 2020. These experiences shaped me both personally and professionally, and they continue to influence the way I approach my work.
After defending my dissertation, the journey to establish myself in Hungary was challenging, but I am incredibly grateful that I was able to secure a position at Óbuda University.
It is very important to me to give back and to support those who are walking the same path I did. I truly believe that when former doctoral students help each other, we all contribute to building a stronger and more supportive community.
I hope I can inspire current and future doctoral candidates on their own journeys.

Dear Colleagues,
I came to academia from the business sector when I started my doctoral studies at BDI. The processes of doctoral training were completely new to me, but any questions or problems that arose, the leaders, teachers, and administrative staff of BDI were willing and very flexible in helping me with everything.
At BDI, I was able to be part of a very special scientific community. At BDI, we, doctoral students, were not treated with academic superiority, but as members of a scientific but at the same time friendly society. Our teachers were not only our instructors, but our real mentors, who shared with us their professional knowledge as well as their experiences related to academic life. They helped us build scientific relationships and introduced us to the world of science.
They supported our scientific careers both professionally and financially. I remember that in several cases, they even provided us, doctoral students, with a university car for travel. The shared experiences of foreign conferences with our lecturers have shaped the BDI teaching and student community into not only a close professional community, but also a true community of friends.
After obtaining my PhD degree, a youthful goal of mine to become a university lecturer was fulfilled. I currently work at the Keleti Károly Faculty of Economics of Óbuda University, and I have a course at BDI in a topic related to my research field. I am proud that I was able to remain part of the BDI community, now on the teaching side. I also help two of my BDI doctoral student colleagues on their scientific journey in the spirit I learned at BDI.

During my years at doctoral school, I had the opportunity to get to know an international network of researchers, with whom we still maintain good relations. It was an interesting experience to experience that similar problems can be examined from different perspectives using scientific methods. Although I was primarily interested in the mathematical and engineering perspectives, many interdisciplinary works with common scientific value were also born.
Security sciences are a broad and exciting field, where representatives of legal, law enforcement, technical and humanities disciplines can also find their own problem areas and collaborate with researchers with whom they can successfully take a topic forward.
Shortly after obtaining my degree, I went back to school and completed the information security engineering training to gain more comprehensive knowledge about the technical, legal and organizational background of data protection. I currently work as the commercial director of a leading Hungarian company dealing with special preventive security solutions. If I can, I regularly return to the university for alumni meetings or practical demonstrations, and we are always happy to welcome students to get to know the most modern security technologies firsthand. I am pleased to see that my former talented students, classmates and lecturers are also active players in the Hungarian security scene, which is increasingly respected internationally. Perhaps it can be stated with due modesty that a think tank of security experts is beginning to emerge in our country, which has also attracted the attention of multinational companies. And the Doctoral School of Security Sciences undoubtedly plays a major role in ensuring that this knowledge is properly focused and given an institutionalized background.

I aspire to pursue a Ph.D. because, as a college lecturer, I am committed to advancing my knowledge, improving the quality of my teaching, and strengthening my academic expertise to better support and inspire my students in their future careers.
My experiences at Óbuda University were truly memorable. I had the opportunity to learn from highly professional professors and interact with international classmates from diverse backgrounds. The university provided an excellent environment for international students, fostering academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and strong connections. They organized various trips that allowed us to explore local landscapes, historical sites, and traditions. Furthermore, they created many chances for students to attend International and regional conferences to exchange scientific knowledge. The professors were not only knowledgeable and professional but also remarkably kind, supportive, and approachable. I had many unforgettable and meaningful memories of them. After I graduated from the Doctoral School on Safety and Security Sciences (Bánki Donát faculty) in 2019, I became a lecturer assistant at the Bánki Donát faculty till 2022. Later, I returned to my home country (Vietnam) and continued working at the same college (Can Tho Technical Economics College). Then, I got a postdoctoral position in cybersecurity at the University of Insubria in Italy in 2024. Currently, I am working as a lecturer at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

ABOUT ME
I started my PhD studies at the Doctoral School of Security Sciences of Óbuda University in 2015, researching the topic of criminal explosive acts. None of my fellow doctoral students at the time were researching this topic. Regardless, I did not feel alone, because fortunately, thanks to my supervisor and the university’s cooperation with other universities, I quickly received colleagues and professional help. During the training, I attended numerous foreign conferences and practical demonstrations, and had the opportunity to participate in two key research area projects as a co-researcher. I always look back on the training period with pleasure, because I think I managed to participate in unusual things. I met many people from whom I could learn a lot and who became my friends. Thanks to the participation in the research and the numerous instructors, I started my own research, which was successfully completed in the ÚNKP competition.
In addition to hard work, there was always an opportunity to relax, because the universities organized many of their own and joint events (meetings, festivals, garden barbecues, Christmas parties, etc.). After obtaining my doctoral degree, I was employed at the university as a lecturer and supervisor.
ABOUT THE DOCTORAL SCHOOL
The doctoral school provides an opportunity to delve into the topic that really interests and concerns you. Are you working alone in your research area? Is your research area multidisciplinary? Do you have little or no help? Don’t be discouraged! Universities cooperate with each other, so you can easily find help during joint, friendly events. In-depth research, innovative products or even lifelong friendships can await you!
I believe that obtaining a doctoral degree is not an easy task. One must be sufficiently humble, persistent and diligent in order to achieve and show results. During your studies, numerous foreign conferences, practical assessments, or even state-funded applications await and help your work. Publications provide you with the opportunity for businesses to notice your talent. If you plan to continue your career at the university, either as a teacher or researcher, it provides an excellent basis for announcing and creating existing, unique subjects.
In addition to hard work, there is also a place for relaxation. University doctoral meetings, festivals, garden barbecues help you escape from everyday worries.

The scientific mentoring approach of Professor Tibor Kovács, Ph.D., was the direct inspiration for me to apply to the doctoral school, and this supportive environment stayed with me throughout my research work. The doctoral student meetings consistently provided a valuable forum for professional exchange, opening up new perspectives. Two moments remain particularly memorable: the Christmas fish soup with Professor Zoltán Raj, Ph.D., and a truly uplifting conversation with Dr. Dániel Tokody before the DOSZ event in Miskolc.
Since obtaining my degree, I have dedicated myself fully to my work. I constantly monitor current developments in the research field and regularly work on new publications. I continue to maintain close ties with the university and the doctoral school: I regularly attend doctoral student meetings and hold them with my personal and professional colleagues and fellow doctoral students. I believe it is especially important that the doctoral school places great emphasis on providing opportunities for publication and conference participation, as well as organizing regular doctoral student meetings, all of which contribute to the professional development and strengthening of the research community. These opportunities remain a decisive foundation in my scientific and professional activities to this day.
